The Can Kicks Back (TCKB) describes itself as a "Millennial movement to defeat the national debt and reclaim the American Dream." Its mission is “to educate, organize and mobilize young Americans in order to promote a sustainable, generationally balanced federal budget”.
The group's name is a play on the idea that politicians all too often "kick the can down the road" when it comes to making tough budget decisions in Washington, delaying action on policy implementation that influences the drivers of the U.S. nation debt of $17 trillion.
A non-partisan campaign, TCKB focuses on "generational equality" in their efforts to call attention to what they see as irresponsible spending, fiscal unsustainability, and an undue burden on young people, who will be strapped with prior generations' debt as they move into adulthood.
TCKB has launched educational social media and traditional lobbying campaigns to raise awareness about these issues, including the "viral" video, "Simpson Style," Senator Alan Simpson's take on Psy's "Gangnam Style," and the #FixDontKick twitter campaign.
